Baptism

Baptism is the first step in a lifelong process of conversion and gradual transformation into Christ as we respond to God’s initiative of love in our lives. The Rite of Baptism is a significant moment of encounter with Christ in the ongoing process of transformation and change. Baptism is to be witnessed and celebrated by the community of believers as they accept newly baptized brothers and sisters into the Christian community and promise support, encouragement and challenge. Most often, parents baptize their children during infancy.

Parents are required to attend a formation class before scheduling a baptism. Infant baptism extends to children who are seven years old or younger. parents may call the parish office, 916-428-5678, to begin this process of infant baptism. Once a child has reached the age of eight, the Church’s “age of reason”, the child and parents are required to participate in a two-year formation process. Parents may call the Faith Formation Office, 916-392-6362, to obtain more information and begin the process.

Adults who wish to be baptized participate in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), a one to two years formation process. Please call our RCIA Coordinator, Barbara Collins, at 916-421-3847 for more information.
